A.J. Cohen collection on the Sorrel-Weed House, 1837-1942.

This collection consists of deeds and other papers pertaining to Lots 6 and 7 in Jasper Ward, Savannah, Georgia. These lots are the site of the Sorrel-Weed House. The deeds date from 1837 to 1941, the first being the deeds of the property to Francis Sorrel by the City of Savannah and the last when it became the property of the Cohens. Other papers, 1941-1942, include a statement of the closing sale of the property, insurance against war damage, rentals, an undated description of the apartments in the house, and a sheet of penciled figures regarding financing the purchase of the property.

A.J. Cohen, Jr. (b. 1920) lived in Savannah, Georgia. His parents, Abram J. and Mildred K. Cohen, bought the Sorrel-Weed house in 1941. The Sorrel-Weed house, named after its first two owners, was designed by Charles B. Cluskey in the Greek Revival Style and was built in 1840 for Francis Sorrel (1793-1870).
